"TheElephant" (426cubicinches)

Here's some background: 6.1L block stroked to 426 cubic inches, exhaling through inch-and-three-quarters long tube headers. A high-flow cat and some Magnaflows round out the rest of the 3" exhaust.
It made a !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , but it never had that rumble you felt in your chest. The noise, in my opinion, never really seemed to reflect the power within.
Until now:
Those are low-profile, electric cut outs. There's a small switch hidden under the dash that opens them up. It now makes the right sound:
We also fixed a leak in the gasket at the head and a starter issue. Along with a new battery in November, and regular oil changes, these are the only maintenance items I have encountered so far.
Next up: I've gotta do wheels, tires, transmission and maybe a supercharger this summer.
1,000 HP would be cool...

How low do those cutouts go under the car? I'm looking to have similar cutouts put into the HEMIWagon, but ground clearance and durability are a major concern for me.
Also, color me jelly, because that sound is absolutely menacing.

They don't change your clearance at all. You can see how they fit almost flush with the bottom of the 3" piping:

Sorry, your mixing of units bugs me. 6.1L stroked to 426ci is 6.98 or simply 7L.
Nice setup though. Very clean.

Good, I'll talk to my shop when we get to do my exhaust. I'm looking to have an MDS 8969 window switch for RPM control of the cutouts, as well as an open/closed switch just in case.

Seven Liters is not as epic a name as "Four Twenty Six".

True. So stroked from 372ci to 426ci. :)

That's a pretty sophisticated set up. Honestly, I rarely run with these open. It's mostly just for kicks at start up and idle, and maybe to scare the local import scene at stop lights.
The drone and vibration at highway speed is a no-go for me.

Finally someone on here with cutouts, and a hemi no less. I'm jelly too. This would pretty much complete my grocery better. I have so many questions. First how well will they do in a cold weather environment? Do they need to be cleaned at the hinge of exposed to salt an such?

Hey - don't blame me. Chrysler is the one mucking about with the marketing.
It's a 6.1 - no, let's bore it out to 6.4! Hey, forget that, we should call it a 392!
I prefer English units, but if I said it had a 372, people wouldn't realize that was a stock a SRT motor.

is there any concern about the exhaust fumes exiting directly under the car? especially while idling.
would love to have a set up like this, but wondering if it would be necessary to pipe them out to a side exit.

I was looking to copy the Hellcat active exhaust (RPM/Load based for opening).
The switch would allow me to leave it closed all the time, but I could manually open it when I want, or let it be RPM controlled if I wanted to experience that.
Admittedly, my 5.7L wont sound quite so aggressive, but I can pretend.

I imagine they should probably be cleaned and maintained if you were going to DD it.
This is purely a toy - it is way too demanding, obnoxious, loud and rude to use on the regular.

Oh, it stanks. Especially since it's got the high-flow cat. In motion, you don't smell anything, but I really don't run with them open a lot.
They seal up tight enough so that you don't know they're there when they are closed.
Plus, if I piped to a side exit, it would kill the sleeper look. Right now, this thing looks like a plane-Jane R/T.

I run pretty low compression. Most of that bite you hear is coming from the long tubes. You'll definitely get a similar noise out of the 5.7.
Here's some crazy Germans with cutouts on what appears to be a mostly stock 300:

Thinking of the HEMIWagon sounding like that makes me grin like an idiot. That'll be fucking awesome.

Do it.
Be warned though: you'll find yourself wasting gas just letting it idle so you can stand there and guffaw at the sound. It's. That. Awesome.
